Avoiding Temptations in Dutch Supermarket

I discovered that the tomatoes in my refrigerator were
low, so I rushed to a nearby Supermarket to buy some.
I was clear that I just needed some tomatoes, a packet
of bread, and some fruit. That’s all because I purchased almost all vegetables
for a week last weekend.
When I went to the Supermarket, I ended up buying a
lot more than I had thought of and the bill came out to be €15 instead of €5.
So, I spent about three times than what I intended to spend.
Now, what extra did I purchase?
I purchased some vegetables and fruits at a good
price, along with some other kitchen-related stuff that was on sale.
So, was this expenditure useless?
I would say NO because I’ve been quite mindful of my
eating habits and exercising regularly. That has helped me to make
health-conscious choices.
I’ve been living in the Netherlands for some months
now. In Dutch Supermarkets, I’ve observed food products with some labels; it is
called the Nutri-score label.
“This label shows consumers that they are
buying a more healthy product in comparison to other, comparable products. The
logo has a color label from ‘A’ to ‘E’. The green ‘A’ stands for healthy and
the red ‘E’ for less healthy.” — Source
For example- Nutri-score label for all processed food
as shown in the picture is ‘E’ while products like fresh vegetables, fruits,
oats, granola, etc. have Nutri-score labels as ‘A’.

Generally, I make a list of things that I want to
purchase while going to the Supermarket, and that list is in my notepad on my mobile,
making it more accessible.
In those cases, when there’s a sudden plan to go to a
Supermarket and my list is not ready, the above labels have made my work
simple. I’ve pledged not to buy any products below the labels ‘A’ and ‘B’. So,
I’m left with limited options to choose from while avoiding the red.
From a taste point of view, those products having a
lower Nutri-score label, taste a lot better than those with a higher label but
when I’m determined to not pick up red ones, it’s not difficult to compromise
with the taste.
The above strategy has not only saved my time but also
aided my decision to select healthy eating options.
Have you been caught up in the temptation of buying
more than you had intended to buy when you enter any Supermarket? How do you
tackle such a situation? Let me know in the comments. I would love to read your
story.
