A Decade to My First Publication on Amazon
Pages of the first - hope for the future

I got published for the first time, on the internet, that
too on Amazon, a decade ago, in February 2015.
It was an Anthology of modern poems, where my poem found a place.
I remember composing this poem for a competition and receiving first prize.
I was still in undergraduate college, weaving a
dream for a glorious future.
Acceptance of my poem in the Anthology provided me
with a great push, thereby fuelling my confidence for submitting my writings
for other online contests that followed it.
To publish something on Amazon, I need not know the
nitty-gritty of publishing. I just had to submit my work on time and let the
editor take charge of the remaining tasks.
This anthology, being my first, still holds a special
place in my heart because it gave me hope for being acknowledged.
A decade has passed since then, and I have kept
publishing my articles and poems on different platforms, but I remember
everything associated with this publication.
As someone very ambitious in my life, I never wanted
to be forgotten. I want my work to be read for many years even after I’m gone
from this mortal world.
Art of any form, like music, writing, or painting, has
the ability to immortalize its creator, and I want my work to do that for me.
I want my work to reach the right audience and be
recognised.
I don’t want anything else.
When did you get your first article or poem published?
What was the story behind your first publication? I would love to hear from you
in the comment section.

Reading your post made me pause and reflect on my own journey as a writer. That longing to be remembered through our words—even after we're gone—hit me hard because I feel the exact same way. I’ve always believed that art, especially writing, holds a quiet immortality, and your words just reinforced that beautifully. I loved how you spoke about not chasing anything else but the right audience and recognition—such a pure and powerful intention. It’s not about fame but about making a lasting emotional connection, and I couldn’t agree more. Like you, I’ve dreamed of leaving behind a legacy of words that still speak when I no longer can. The vulnerability in your post was so genuine, especially when you asked about our own first publications—it made me smile thinking of mine. Your story reminded me that even a decade in, the spark doesn’t fade—it deepens.
ReplyDeleteSwati, congratulations to you for your first publication anniversary! No matter how many times you get published and you write many books, this first anthology will be the most special work to you, I know. Loved learning about your work here. But I was expecting you sharing a few lines from your poem. No worries, someday, for sure. - Swarnali Nath (The Blissful Storyteller)
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely knowing you through your writing journey. Congratulations on completing a decade of your first publication. Do share the anthology name or link. Would love to read it!
ReplyDeleteSwati, going back to one's first publication is always a treasured memory. Seeing your name in print always gives one a high. Congratulations on completing a decade of your maiden anthology. Your writing will make readers immortalise your name and your work, and finally, that is all that matters, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteLooking back at our own journey as a writer is both fascinating and instructive. We all, writers I mean, want to reach an audience and be recognised. How do you feel about that reach and recognition today, I would love to know. Personally, I'm pretty peased with my own journey however limited my reach may be.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a Day1 of everything, and we should recognise it One day, after we are at a secure place. Congratulations on your journey as a writer.
ReplyDeleteMany congratulations on the decade anniversary of your first publication. It must be a proud feeling. The idea of being immortalized through our words is an out of the world feeling for sure.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your win. It's always special to be recognized for your work. I think I had written something around crackers and it got printed in the kids' newspaper of the TOI. I think my mom was more excited than me about that accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's great. Congratulations on completing a decade of your published poem! It's always great to have your work published along with other good writers. Hope to get to read this someday.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations not just for being a published author but for imparting the life lesson of looking back and cherishing the achievements. More growth and success to you!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! A decade is a long time even though it may feel like yesterday. And the first publication is always special.
